Storyhouse reveals full casting for new adaptation of ANTIGONE

Antigone

Casting has been announced for a brand new production of Greek classic Antigone at the Storyhouse in Chester, running from 13-23 October, in conjunction with Manchester-based TripleC, a key gateway organisation for disabled people’s access to the arts and media.

The play will be a retelling of the Sophocles tragedy, in which Antigone’s brothers kill each other in a bitter battle for the throne of Thebes, their uncle Creon declares himself King and Antigone must go against her uncle’s wrath to honour her deceased brother, even if it means her own death in return.

Retold by award winning poet Hollie McNish, the production will be fully signed using British Sign Language throughout.

Taking on the role of Antigone will be Fatima Niemogha, Raffie Julien will play the role of Ismene, Kreon will be played by Ken Christiansen and Haemon by Bart Lambert. They will be joined by Jim Findley as Tiresias, Matt Crosby as Comedian/ Compère, Harry Bharat as Guard, Rachael Merry as Messenger and Amy Helena as Coryphaeus.

Producer at Storyhouse, Helen Redcliffe, said: “We are thrilled with this dazzling cast of creative talent, who each comes with a unique perspective and energy. Antigone will be unlike anything we’ve done at Storyhouse before.”

Natasha Rickman will direct the piece and return to Storyhouse after working as associate director on A Little Night Music, with composition and musical direction by Alex Beetschen, design by Adam Wiltshire, video by Cate Blanchard and lighting by Jane Jalee.

Tickets for Antigone are now on sale here.
