Step Four of the government roadmap delayed until 19 July

Front tabs

It was sadly expected but the Prime Minister has confirmed this evening that Step 4 of the government roadmap will be delayed by four weeks until 19 July, amidst an increased number of new Coronavirus infections.

This is a huge blow to the theatre industry who were hoping to ease social distancing restrictions and be able to sell to full capacity once again.

Boris Johnson said that he is confident that four weeks should be sufficient time to contain the virus further and as such, he will be ramping up the speed of getting vaccinations to those who need them, with the aim of all adults being vaccinated by mid-July.

He also said that pilot events would continue including some theatrical performances and sporting events.

There is the option that after two weeks, if the risk has diminished, Step Four may be brought forward.

Let’s keep everything crossed, Besties.
