Sonia Friedman announces RE:EMERGE season in the West End from May
Sonia Friedman Productions will present a season of socially distanced performances at London’s Harold Pinter Theatre from May, curated in partnership with Ian Rickson.
The RE:EMERGE season will feature Yasmin Joseph’s J’Ouvert, Walden by Amy Berryman and Joseph Charlton’s Anna X.
Winner of the James Tait Black Drama Prize, J'Ouvert is directed by Rebekah Murrell. It was originally produced by Theatre503, in a co-production with Bad Breed and Tobi Kyeremateng. The production is designed by Sandra Falase in collaboration with Chloe Lamford, with lighting by Simisola Majekodunmi and sound by Beth Duke. There are also plans for J’Ouvert to be broadcast by the BBC later this year.
Directed by Ian Rickson, Walden (which follows a NASA botanist who returns from a year-long Moon mission) will star Gemma Arterton, Fehinti Balogun and Lydia Wilson. It is designed by Rae Smith, with lighting by Azusa Ono, music by Mark Bradshaw and sound by Emma Laxton.
Set in the world of front-row fashion shows, the third show is Joseph Charlton’s Anna X. Directed by Daniel Raggett, the piece will star The Crown’s Emma Corrin and Nabhaan Rizwan. It has set and video design by Mikaela Liakata and Tal Yarden, lighting by Jessica Hung Han Yun, sound by Mike Winship and costumes by Natalie Pryce.
It is also planned for comedy The Comeback to return alongside the RE:EMERGE season. Further information will be released soon.
