Soho Theatre to broadcast its shows on Amazon Prime in new series Soho Theatre Live

Soho Theatre series 1

London’s Soho Theatre has signed a three-series contract with streaming giant Amazon Prime to broadcast its shows to viewers in the UK.

Soho Theatre, a venue normally entertaining 250,000 live audience members a year, launched its virtual platform Soho Theatre on Demand in Spring 2020 with a streaming of the original recording of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag

This virtual platform will now host a three-series deal with Amazon Prime. The first series (featuring 11 existing shows) will air next month and future series will be rehearsed, filmed and aired throughout 2021. This new venture marks an increasingly popular collaboration between live theatre and streaming services, born out of the events of 2020.

Mark Godfrey and David Luff (Soho Theatre’s Executive Director and Creative Director respectively) released a statement saying: “We're thrilled to sign this three-series deal with Amazon Prime Video. It's part of our commitment to connect the work of the brilliant performers on our Soho stages to much wider audiences. We're looking forward to introducing some of our existing filmed shows to Amazon Prime Video audiences now, and to invest in a further 20 new comedy shows to be filmed for Series 2 and 3.”

Soho Theatre Live Series 1 will be available to stream from 3 December and you can get a 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime Video here. The series will feature award-winning comedians who have played at the iconic venue over the last five years. These include Aditi Mittal, Dane Baptiste, Jen Brister, Jessie Cave, Joel Dommett, Josie Long, Lazy Susan, Nish Kumar, Panti Bliss, Rhys James and Shappi Khorsandi.
