Shakespeare’s Globe announces casting for Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank: THE TEMPEST

Shakespeare’s Globe have announced casting for this year’s Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank production of The Tempest, which runs from 18 March-15 April.

Directed by Diane Page, the cast includes Aoife Gaston as Stephano and David Huntley as Prospero, who both return to Playing Shakespeare after featuring in the 2022  production, Macbeth. Joining them are Azan Ahmed (Name, Place, Animal, Thing, Almeida Theatre) as Ferdinand, Charlie Cameron (The Ocean at the End of the Lane, West End) as Ariel, David Ijiti as Gonzalo, Emma Manton (Love’s Labour’s Lost/Love’s Labour’s Won, Chichester Festival Theatre/West End) as Alonso, Lloyd McDonagh (Ghost Stories, West End/UK tour) as Sebastian, Archie Rush (Spring Awakening, Young Vic) as Caliban, Bea Svistunenko (A Very Expensive Poison, Old Vic) as Miranda/Trinculo, and Zheng Xi Yong (Piaf, Nottingham Playhouse/Leeds Playhouse) as Antonio.

Director Diane Page said: “It’s really fantastic to be back at the Globe and to direct The Tempest with our exciting  team of actors and creatives. With the theatre full of young people, the atmosphere as close to the original audience  400 years ago, what could be more energising.” 

The production is designed by Moi Tran, with composition by Simon Slater, movement direction by Asha Jennings-Grant, and casting direction by Nicholas Hockaday.
