Selladoor announces plans to reopen its theatres for Christmas season

Jason Merrells

Selladoor has announced that its venues in Barnstaple, Ilfracombe and Peterborough will reopen for the festive season.

The Queens Theatre in Barnstaple will launch its Christmas programme with a new modern adaptation of A Christmas Carol, starring Jason Merrells, from 17-19 December. Following this will be Barnstaple’s Christmas Cracker starring Gareth Gates, Nicki French, comedy duo Simmons and Simmons and circus performer Naomi Scott, running from 21-31 December.

The New Theatre Peterborough reopens with Jimmy Carr on 12 December, followed by Santa’s Christmas Cracker on 19 December, which will then go on to run at Ilfracombe’s Landmark Theatre on 24 December.

Chief Executive at Selladoor Worldwide David Hutchinson said: “We’ve battled through all the odds and despite the unknown terrain ahead, we couldn’t be more excited to welcome our audiences back as we prepare to raise the curtain again at our three venues in time for the festive season.

"Our venue teams are working harder than ever to provide much-needed entertainment, imaginative programming and engagement with the arts and live performance for our local communities in a safe and responsible environment.

"With support from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport [Culture Recovery Fund] we are committed to working hard to bridge the gap in helping our communities to continue to access theatre and retain and grow the crucial connection we as venues have with our audiences."

The above plans are subject to regional tier assignments tomorrow.
