Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre announces shows for 2021

The Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough has announced three world premieres in its programme for 2021, including a second outing for a play which debuted at the National Theatre in 2018. 

The Girl Next Door will open the season on 4 June, directed by Alan Ayckbourn. Following this will be Laura Wade’s Home I’m Darling which has been co-produced with Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake and the Octagon Theatre in Bolton. The Girl Next Door will run from 4 June – 3 July and Home I’m Darling will follow from 9 July - 14 August. 

The autumn will bring a new adaptation of Benjamin Myers’ best selling book The Offing from 14 – 30 October. The coming-of-age novel will be co-produced with Live Theatre, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. 

The Christmas show for 2021 will be Jack and the Beanstalk, a new adaptation by SJT stalwart Nick Lane. In between these shows, there will be visiting productions including Blackeyed Theatre’s The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

The SJT’s Artistic Director, Paul Robinson, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be presenting live theatre again throughout the second half of 2021. We’ve pulled together a programme which we think will have a really broad appeal, and we can’t wait to welcome audiences back through our doors again.”

Booking for shows will be open from 10am on Friday 16 April and the theatre will follow all Covid guidelines in the performing of the shows.
