RSC’s THE MIRROR AND THE LIGHT extends West End booking period due to popular demand
The Royal Shakespeare Company and Playful Productions have today announced that their West End production of The Mirror and the Light, due to run at The Gielgud Theatre from 23 September, has now extended its run by eight weeks to 23 January 2022.
The Mirror and the Light is an adaptation of the third and final novel in the Wolf Hall trilogy by Dame Hilary Mantel and has been adapted for the stage by Mantel and Ben Miles.
The story set in 1536 charts the rise and fall of Thomas Cromwell in the court of Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn’s fate has been sealed and Jane Seymour must now deliver the King the healthy male heir he desperately wants. Cromwell climbs the ranks to be the Kings highest aide, but the higher you climb the further you fall.
Ben Miles will star as Cromwell with Nathaniel Parker returning to the role of King Henry VIII, which won him an Olivier Award. Nicholas Boulton will play the Duke of Suffolk, Matt Pidgeon as Stephen Gardiner and Giles Taylor as Archbishop Cranmer.
Completing the cast will be; Rosanna Adams (Anna of Cleves), Paul Adeyefa (Christophe), Melissa Allan (Princess Mary), Samuel Awoyo (Ensemble), Aurora Dawson-Hunte (Elizabeth Seymour), Ian Drysdale (French Ambassador), Mark Extance (Ensemble) Jo Herbert (Lady Rochford), Andrew Hodges (Ensemble), Niamh James (Ensemble), Terique Jarrett (Gregory Cromwell), Jordan Kouamé (Rafe Sadler), Geoffrey Lumb (Thomas Wriothesley), Olivia Marcus (Jane Seymour), Umi Myers (Helen Sadler / Dorothea Wolsey), Liam Smith (Walter Cromwell), Tony Turner (Kingston), Leo Wan (Richard Riche) and Nicholas Woodeson (Duke of Norfolk).
Jeremy Herrin, who directed the first two productions returns for the final part, Christopher Oram (who won both Olivier and Tony Awards for the first two productions) provides scenic and costume design. Lighting design is provided by Jessica Hug Han Yun, and music is by Stephen Warbeck, with sound design by Nick Powell.
