The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced the latest guests to take part in ‘Talking Shakespeare’, an online conversation series in which RSC alumni, associate and honorary artists discuss their experiences of performing Shakespeare at the RSC. The sessions are led by RSC artistic director, Gregory Doran.

The latest line up includes distinguished actors David Suchet, Antony Sher, Juliet Stevenson, and Paterson Joseph.

Antony Sher first joined the RSC as the Fool in Adrian Noble’s production of King Lear in 1982. Since then he has performed for the RSC multiple times, in productions of Richard 3rd, The Merchant of Venice, Twelfth Night, Titus Andronicus, The Winter’s Tale, Macbeth, Othello, The Tempest and Henry 4th Parts 1 and 2. Most recently in 2016, he played King Lear in Gregory Doran’s production, which toured to New York in 2018. Sher is also a celebrated author and artist and is regarded as one of Britain’s leading actors.

David Suchet is perhaps best known as Agatha Christie’s famous detective Hercule Poirot. But he has been a member of the RSC since 1973 and has performed over 30 roles for the company, including roles in Richard 2nd, The Merchant of Venice, As You Like It, and Macbeth.

Juliet Stevenson joined the RSC after graduating in 1978, performing in Peter Brook’s production of Antony & Cleopatra. Since then she has performed in productions of Henry 4th, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Measure for Measure, Troilus & Cressida and As You Like It. Most recently, she played the role of Gertrude in Hamlet at the Almeida.

Paterson Joseph has played many roles at the RSC throughout his career, winning awards along the way. He has played roles in Troilus & Cressida, King Lear, The Last Days of Don Juan, Love’s Labour’s Lost. Most recently, he played Brutus in Julius Caesar, as part of the World Shakespeare Festival in 2012.

Previous guests of the series have included Judi Dench, Harriet Walter, Ray Fearon, Simon Russell Beale, Patrick Stewart, Adjoa Andoh, David Tennant and Alexandra Gilbreath.

‘Talking Shakespeare’ runs every Monday from 5pm-6pm and is open to subscribers, members and patrons of the RSC. It’s free to attend but there is a suggested donation of £10 per session. All donations go towards the Keep Your RSC campaign, which will help to secure the RSC’s future and its mission to transform lives through experiencing great theatre.
