RSC announce full casting for Pulitzer Prize winning play ENGLISH
The Royal Shakespeare Company have announced the full cast and creative team for Sanaz Toossi’s Pulitzer Prize winning play English, which will receive its European premiere at The Other Place in Stratford-upon-Avon between 9 May–1 June before transferring to the Kiln in London from 5 June.
The full cast includes Nadia Albina (Emilia, Shakespeare’s Globe/West End) as Marjan, Sara Hazemi (A Sudden Violent Burst of Rain, Paines Plough/Gate Theatre) as Goli, Lanna Joffrey (Sister Radio, Pitlochry, Traverse, Tron, Perth, Lemon Tree, Derby, Byre) as Roya, Nojan Khazai (professional debut) as Omid, and Serena Manteghi (Bleak Expectations, West End) as Elham. Four of the five actors will make their RSC debuts as part of Daniel Evans and Tamara Harvey’s inaugural season as Co-Artistic Directors.
A classroom in Iran. Four adult classmates grapple with learning English as a foreign language. As they attempt to perfect their accents, pronunciation and vocabulary, they realise that there is more to their lives than can ever be uttered through language.
English is directed by Diyan Zora, with set and costume design by Anisha Fields, lighting by Elliot Griggs, sound by George Dennis, movement direction by Maria Tarokh, and casting by and Lotte Hines CDG.
