Rodgers and Hammerstein’s FLOWER DRUM SONG to be adapted for the screen
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic 1958 musical Flower Drum Song is going to be adapted for the screen.
Whilst it is unknown yet whether the musical will be presented on television or in cinemas, it will be co-created by Concord alongside Daniel Dae Kin’s 3AD Productions and Janet Yang Productions.
The Tony Award-winning musical follows a wealthy refugee who moves from China to San Francisco and is based on the C Y Lee novel of the same name.
The show, which had been reworked due to the material being outdated, opened to mainly poor reviews on Broadway in 2002 and closed 6 months later. It is thought that there will be more reworking before the adaptation arrives on our screens.
The news of the adaptation follows, rumours of Oklahoma! and The King and I and more being transported to the screen once again.
