Roadside Theatre offers a frank look at the reality of leaving prison in the UK in PAPER BOATS

Paper Boats

Roadside Theatre will debut their devised, part-verbatim show Paper Boats at the Town & Gown Pub and Theatre in Cambridge from 27-29 September.

Standing on the side of a road, clutching a plastic bag in one hand and £46 in the other, staring at the future.

Like many prison leavers, Sam has just been released into the middle of nowhere. Miles from home, with no place to go and no way of getting there, there is nothing to do except walk.

In this brand new piece, Roadside Theatre offers a frank look at the reality of leaving prison in the UK through Sam’s eyes. Telling unheard stories with humour and compassion, Paper Boats explores what it means to start again.

Director Amara Heyland said: “The best thing that theatre can represent is a space for stories to provoke empathy and ask questions; these extraordinary stories, which people don’t often hear, offer a great opportunity for us to make something which challenges audiences with an important issue.”

In a show which is gripping, dynamic and unique, Roadside will shed light on a little-known aspect of navigating the prison system in this country; what happens when you leave?
