Review: UP AT THE O2 - STARS OF THE WEST END CLIMB

For musical theatre fans seeking an experience like no other, Up at the O2: Stars of the West End Climb offers a thrilling mix of adventure and entertainment. This unique experience combines the exhilaration of scaling the O2 Arena with a sky-high live performance featuring some of the best voices from London’s West End.
Once you reach the summit, the reward is not just the stunning view of London’s skyline but also a live 20-minute performance by West End stars. With the city beneath you, the performers treat you to a selection of musical theatre favourites and rock hits, all arranged in dynamic four-part harmonies. While it may not be a traditional concert experience, the setting adds a one-of-a-kind charm. Hearing beloved songs at the top of such an iconic venue creates an unforgettable, atmospheric experience that’s hard to replicate.
The medleys themselves - one dedicated to musical theatre classics and another to rock-inspired hits - bring together genres to satisfy a range of tastes. The group, Rock On, each with credits in West End shows including Matilda, We Will Rock You, Bat Out of Hell, and Jesus Christ Superstar bring their vocal prowess to this unconventional stage. Although the concert had its challenges, particularly the swaying platform due to the audience dancing along, it was still a memorable and enjoyable performance. The difficulties posed by the outdoor setting, such as weather conditions and the small stage, were handled well by the performers.
However, be warned: if you’re prone to motion sickness, the constant movement underfoot might be a bit disorienting. Still, for most, the unique setting more than makes up for it.
The climb itself is a highlight - steep in parts but absolutely worth the effort for the unbeatable views and the special performance at the top. It’s a blend of adventure and theatre that’s as fun as it is unforgettable.
