Review: THE WINDSORS: ENDGAME, Prince of Wales Theatre
What a night to watch The Windsors: Endgame! A night filled with laughter, not just chuckles, but laugh out loud moments every other minute.
The show is based on Channel 4’s The Windsors, a sitcom and parody of the Royal Family.
It is top billed by the formidable Harry Enfield as Prince Charles, supported by Tracy-Ann Oberman who is incredibly funny as Camilla, with the fab four young royals played by Tom Durant-Pritchard (Harry - who was also in the original series), Crystal Condie (Meghan), Kara Tointon (Kate) and Ciaran Owens (William).
It touches on the squabble between Kate and Meghan (which thanks to Oprah, we now all know about!) and the brotherly bond between William and Harry. Prince Andrew and his family are also featured heavily, having been the subject of scandal and controversy in recent years.
The jokes are silly, sometimes ridiculous and even distasteful but regardless, they are very funny. It is a fitting show to watch at a time of Brexit, Covid and everything else happening in the world at present. We can just forget our worries and laugh for two hours.
The set, designed by Madeleine Girling, provides a good backdrop to the fictional reign of King Charles III. The costume design by Hilary Lewis is a mix of historical costumes and good old Boden/high street outfits for Kate (it’s one of the jokes, you’ll understand when you see it!)
The Windsors: Endgame is a show that has everything; history, comedy, fun, song and dance, and even a flying King!
If you want an evening of poking fun at anything and everything about the Royal Family and current British news, head over to the Prince of Wales Theatre and watch The Windsors Endgame. The show gets a royal five stars from us.
