Review: THE MOUSETRAP, Theatre Royal Brighton - UK tour

Touring the country on its 70th anniversary, “the world’s longest running play” The Mousetrap takes a pit stop to delight audiences in Brighton’s Theatre Royal this week.

Agatha Christie’s novel-turned-play has been a pillar of the West End stage for 70 years at the St. Martin’s Theatre, having performed over 28,500 times. To be the longest running play, there must be a unique magic to The Mousetrap and though we couldn’t particularly put our finger on what it is, we certainly enjoyed our evening of murder, mystery and games.

The play finishes with an encouragement to all to become a ‘partner in crime’ and keep the secret of The Mousetrap so don’t worry Besties, this will remain a spoiler free zone. But we will definitely be gushing on the incredible performances given by the entire cast.

Stand out performances come from understudy Kieran Brown as Mr Paravicini and Joseph Reed’s Detective Stg. Trotter but the whole cast are amazing at holding our attention and admiration throughout, which we all know isn’t always the case. The simple yet elegant set really pulls you in to Monkswell Manor and Ian Talbot OBE’s direction just pulls together this kooky yet sophisticated mystery.

Besties, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Monkswell Manor and fully encourage you all to join us as partners in crime and keep the mystery of The Mousetrap alive. The tour is currently in Brighton but will be heading all over the country so keep an eye out in your city!

Simple, elegant and classic.
