Review: THE LIFE AND ADVENTURES OF SANTA CLAUS, Pitlochry Festival Theatre

Adapted by poet and playwright Hannah Lavery from the short story by L. Frank Baum (famously known for writing The Wizard of Oz), The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus is a family friendly Christmas tale suitable for all ages including the very small.

Told to Alice (Rosa Lavery) by Fairy (Fiona Wood), after she is accidentally trapped by Alice’s plan to catch Santa Claus, we begin a magical journey that takes us to Wood Nymphs, Knooks and Ryls, from the Forest of Burzee to the Laughing Valley and afar.

It’s the story of how Santa Claus and his legacy began. Where did he come from? How did he become so loved? Why and how does he deliver all those presents in just one night? All of these questions and more are answered right here in this intriguing legend.

The story is told well. There are short snippets of actual storytelling by Fairy, between the story being played out by the other characters, as we see them in the forest and valley that is being described to us, which is good for keeping younger audience’s attention. It is also a short piece (approx. 35 minutes), which again keeps children entertained in the same way as reading them an actual story.

The fairy tale characters are magical and will be adored by all ages, giving the piece that extra bit of Christmas magic!

Taking place in a specially made outdoor Christmas installation, safe and socially distanced, children can enjoy the opportunity of meeting Santa Claus himself, before enjoying the film in the outdoor amphitheatre surrounded by picturesque gardens. You will also receive a link to watch the film in the warmth of your own home during the festive season as an additional treat!

This is one everyone will enjoy, so book your tickets to meet Santa and learn how it all began!
