Review: THE IMPROV MUSICAL, Music Theatre Warwick - Gilded Balloon, Edinburgh Festival Fringe

With the audience choosing the location, characters and show title, The Improv Musical is quite literally a different show every time.

Fast paced and completely improvised by a talented cast and on-stage band, their fate is in the hands of the audience. On this particular occasion, we are subject to a musical in a sausage factory with Kate Bush and a gerbil. Where do you even start?

Well, there’s a kidnapping, evil parents, an ex-pop star with a career change and that’s just the first ten minutes!

The cast are talented and quick thinking, as is needed in this situation, but some of the modern-day references are slightly lost on an older audience, which means the story loses momentum and makes it hard for the audience to remain focused.

The band and actors work well together and manage to create some worthy ‘musical theatre tunes’ at the drop of a hat. It’s not only commendable, but toe tappingly entertaining.

For an unpredictable afternoon, check them out, there will be laughs and a happy musical theatre vibe guaranteed.

Spontaneous musical fun!
