Launched in 2020 by Kate Ashmead and Martin Parsons, Crime and Comedy Theatre Company present the 120th anniversary production of The Hound of the Baskervilles.

Adapted by Martin Parsons (who also directs and appears as Jack Stapleton), based on the original story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and presented as a radio play live on stage, this new production is a refreshing interpretation of the classic story set in the Autumn of 1889.

The stage is set in the style of Holmes study, with a classic dark mahogany desk and bookshelves. In true historical radio style, various items are set ready for use as sound effects, the wellington boots on a tray of stones as someone walks on the gravel and the two halves of coconut shell for horse’s hooves.

Terry Molloy appears as Doctor Watson, who begins the narration of the mysterious tale with vigour and finesse. Colin Baker as Sherlock Holmes enthusiastically joins the scene and brings his own charm to the role of the famous detective. The two have a good rapport as the story unfolds and the intrigue surrounding the death of Sir Charles Baskerville is unraveled.

Can the heir to the Baskerville estate, Sir Henry Baskerville, be protected from the same fate? Is the legend of the Hound of the Baskervilles that has haunted the family for generations all that it is thought to be? Far from the London streets of 221B Baker Street, will the lines between reality and legend become blurred?

Supported by Dee Sadler (Doctor Mortimer), Nigel Fairs (Sir Henry Baskerville), Kate Ashmead (Eliza Barrymore) and Martin Parsons (Jack Stapleton) the performance is strong from this small cast, maintaining the suspense as twists in the tale are revealed.

Murder, mystery and unexplained events are brought to the forefront for an immensely entertaining evening. Highly recommended by us, Besties!
