Fringe review: THE COIL’S LAMENT, Siomha Hennessy - Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Siomha is in her celibate era. She'd rather staple her tongue to a table then face another Hinge date with a guy who says he's looking for a girl who 'doesn't take herself too seriously'. Instead, she scrolls Tiktok for seven hours a day and has even started having full blown arguments with her own contraceptive coil (who is NOT happy in retirement).

Lets just get one thing straight here, Hennessy is hilariously funny. She is incredibly honest and it's something most of us can relate to: the horror of dating apps! Then there's the ex-boyfriends, why do we always think we are the problem? (Sometimes we can be a little bit scary, but still!) Her performance is brilliantly portrayed and she even throws in a few songs as a bonus.

It's a brilliant way to realise we're not alone in our thoughts, we all feel the same frustrations, and why shouldn't we? Dating's hard. Especially when your life's a bit weird and sometimes you might be a bit too much. Although you may need to pity the men in the room (just a tiny bit!)

Genuinely funny and greatly rewarding.

**** Four stars
