Review: THE BODYGUARD, Bournemouth Pavilion - Tour

The iconic story of The Bodyguard is continuing to tour the UK with a new leading lady, Zoe Birkett as Rachel Marron. Following on from Melody Thornton, she brings Whitney Houston’s greatest hits to life once again with ease and she definitely owns that stage with her superb vocals. Having seen this show a few months ago, we were eager to see Birkett's take on this iconic role and she does not disappoint.

Based on the movie of the same title, this musical not only showcases Whitney Houston’s greatest hits but also tells the story of singing superstar Rachel Marron and how she falls in love with Frank Farmer, her bodyguard.

Once again, Ayden Callaghan is perfect in the role of Frank Farmer, full of charm and suave, while Marios Nicolaides has us on the edge of our seats, keeping us wandering where he is going to pop up next as the creepy Stalker!

The young star who plays Fletcher adds cuteness overload to the cast; he is a fantastic dancer and will definitely go far!

For us, the star of last night’s show was Emily-Mae who played the role of Nicki Marron. Vocally beautiful, she portrays this role perfectly and she is a joy to watch.

With iconic hits ‘I Will Always Love You’, ‘One Moment In Time’, ‘Run to You’, ‘I Have Nothing’, ‘Queen Of The Night’ and ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, it’s safe to say that the audience left the auditorium singing along!

The orchestra was under the superb direction of Sam Hall and the effects, lighting and slick scene changes all add to the overall production.

With a new leading lady, The Bodyguard is a must see show, and a great night out.

**** Four stars
