Fringe review: THE BEATLES WERE A BOYBAND, F-Bomb Theatre - Edinburgh Festival Fringe

The cosy, safe world of three flatmates is rocked by a woman's murder. Now Violet's scared walking home from her late shift. Daisy's become an accidental activist drawing unwanted attention from the manosphere. And Heather just wants to get on with life. After all, who really needs to change to make women safer?

Written by Rachel O'Regan and directed by Kolbrun Bjort Sigfusdottir, The Beatles Were A Boyband is a piece based on the effects of gender-based violence against women - sadly an all too familiar subject.

Sally Cairns plays Violet, Kirsten Hutchison plays Heather and Melissa MacNaught plays Daisy. The individual traits of each character apparent and the rapport between the three, relatable and natural. We all know a Heather, a Violet or a Daisy.

Whilst the writing is entertaining and enjoyable to watch, it doesn't detract from the importance of its significance. It's not preachy or identifying blame directly, more educating those that need it, by letting them observe and put the pieces together for themselves.

Empowering, educational and relevant.
