Review: THAT’LL BE THE DAY, Churchill Theatre Bromley - Tour
In its 39th year, That’ll Be The Day returns once again, continuing to charm audiences with its unique blend of comedy, rock 'n' roll, and sheer nostalgia. Created and directed by Trevor Payne, who remains an integral part of the performance, the show takes you on a vibrant journey from the 50s through to the 80s, blending humour with world-class musicianship. Despite his years, Payne still commands the stage with his familiar comedic flair and impressive vocal abilities, proving that age is no barrier to talent.
While the entire cast delivers an impressive performance, Eduardo Neto truly steals the show. A multi-talented performer, Neto dazzles the audience with his mastery of multiple instruments including drums, guitar, saxophone, and more. His enthusiasm and sheer joy are infectious, as he dances and sings along, exuding a contagious energy that has the audience hooked. His versatility and liveliness makes every moment on stage feel electric.
With a running time of 2 hours and 40 minutes, the show is undeniably long, but the vast selection of songs from different decades and genres keep things fresh. The costumes are another standout feature, beautifully designed to embody the iconic artists and eras being represented, from Elvis to The Beatles. Each costume change feels purposeful and brings an extra layer of authenticity to the performance.
The lighting design deserves special mention. It is perfectly executed to enhance the musical numbers without distracting from the performers. Each song feels like a spectacle, highlighted by vibrant lighting choices that draw attention to the band while adding a sense of concert-level excitement.
Throughout the evening, the show delivers a feel-good, nostalgia-filled trip through the decades of pop culture for all fans of that age of music, and is guaranteed to have you tapping your feet and singing along.
Nostalgic, energetic, and brimming with joy – this show is rock ‘n’ roll magic!
