Fringe review: STRING V SPITTA, Soho Theatre - Edinburgh Festival Fringe

A kid's party...but for adults. This is Soho Theatre's smash-hit musical comedy about two rival children's entertainers. Think Amadeus meets Flight of the Conchords meets Dizzee Rascal; this is one party you won't want to miss!

String (Ed MacArthur) is the public schoolboy, come old skool children's party entertainer. Think educational magic tricks and disciplined behaviour. His opposite, Spitta (Kiell Smith-Bynoe), is a raised by a single parent, helps to support his family since he was at school kind of guy. He's more of the 'lets just have some fun and be kids' kind of children's party entertainer.

MacArthur and Smith-Bynoe are superb. Throwing insults back and forth at one another continuously, how are they ever going to get through Anastasia's 6th birthday party working together?

This is a brilliant, consistently impressive and increasingly funny performance. It's unpredictability makes it engaging throughout. Children's parties were never this good!

A completely brilliant party piece!

***** Five stars
