Fringe review: REUBEN KAYE - THE BUTCH IS BACK, Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Fast, on the edge and brutally funny, Reuben Kaye is back to tear the world apart and put it back together again. Backed by a full band, this show is guaranteed to have you on your feet screaming or bent over in hysterics. Kaye is utterly unforgettable and not to be missed!

Kaye is in fine voice with some killer vocals from the start, making their entrance in style with a fitted suit and additional pannier skirt (the type you would associate with Marie Antoinette in the 17th century), their face emblazoned across the back of it. There is nothing like a bit of subtle self promotion, and this is nothing like being subtle!

It's a mix of empirical chat, political topics, a few audience observations (and charming insults) and some of Kaye's life stories. With songs thrown in, this is a truly fantastic night of laugh out loud fun and toe tapping music.

Kaye is an absolutely diamond performer. Nothing is out of bounds, no line is too far to cross, but it's all in the name of good fun.

An explicitly excellent evening!

**** Four stars
