Fringe review: I WISH MY LIFE WERE LIKE A MUSICAL, James Seabright - Edinburgh Festival Fringe

I Wish My Life Were Like a Musical, and we feel the same way after seeing this show! This production is an ode to musicals, all things theatre and the joy they bring into our lives.

This is not the first time that this show has been to the Edinburgh Fringe but it’s back this year with some new songs and a cast of West End regulars. Written by Alexander S Bermange and directed and choreographed by Matthew Parker, the show is slick and performed by a sensational cast. We open with a song aptly called ‘Opening Number’ with the cast dressed in sparkly gold waistcoats, and the high energy and showbiz pizazz continues until the very end.

The cast of Jennifer Caldwell, Sev Keoshgerian, Rhidian Marc and Julie Yammanee are insanely talented with incredibly versatile and impressive vocal talents. It is a real skill to sing deliberately out of tune and off beat and still sound fantastic! Each cast member really gets their chance to shine so it is impossible to single out a star performer.

I Wish My Life Were Like a Musical is so cleverly written, filled with references and Easter eggs any musical theatre fan will love. It is witty, funny and full of heart. You can tell that the cast are having a fabulous time performing the material.

Make sure you add I Wish My Life Were Like a Musical to your list at this year’s Fringe for a dose of pure feel-good stagey fun!

***** Five stars
