Review: I LOVE MUSICALS, Peter Joback - Album

Peter Joback kick-started his career in the musical Kristina Fran Duvemala in 1995, written by ABBA’S Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson. Since then, he has gone on to appear in London’s West End in the role of Chris in Miss Saigon, Peter in The Witches of Eastwick and the title role of the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera.

Alongside this successful musical theatre career, Peter has a massive pop career in Sweden and in 2012, he created the show concept for I Love Musicals, selling out arena tours in 2012, 2013 and 2015, then Tokyo in 2016, and performing to the largest musicals concert in Gothenburg in front of 27,000 people.

This concept led to the release of his 2012 album, which now sees a 10th Anniversary edition of I Love Musicals being released.

Containing some of Peter’s favourite musical theatre songs, there is something for everyone. From the traditional ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘Music Of The Night’ from The Phantom Of The Opera, to the lesser known ‘Gold Can Turn To Sand’ from Kristina Fran Duvemala.

The album is an eclectic compilation celebrating musical theatre and is an enjoyable listen.

The hauntingly emotional rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ from Carousel and the powerful ‘Why God Why’ from Miss Saigon are two of our favourites Besties, but the absolute stand out track has to be ‘I Don’t Care Much’ from Cabaret - definitely worth a listen!

With the bonus track of ‘Down To The Sea’ from Kristina Fran Duvemala, you will not be disappointed to find this in your Christmas stocking!
