Review: HAMILTON, Ensemble Arts Philly - North American Tour
What can we say about Hamilton that hasn’t already been said? It’s incredible! It has more Tony nominations than any other musical in history. Hamilton transcends history to incorporate rap, R&B, soul, pop and traditional show tunes and brings in new generations of musical theatre lovers. New blocking and character traits breathe fresh life into a familiar story, allowing audiences to experience it in a different way that really comes alive.
Alexander Hamilton, while not as prominently featured in many textbooks, was indeed one of the most influential Founding Fathers. His contributions to the military during the Revolutionary War, his role in drafting the Constitution, and his establishment of the financial system as the first Secretary of the Treasury, laid the groundwork for modern American governance.
Hamilton's advocacy for a strong central government and a multi-party system shaped political discourse, while his financial policies, including the creation of a national bank, set important precedents. Additionally, he supported gradual abolition and was involved in early anti-slavery efforts. Unfortunately, his personal life, particularly his affair and the subsequent scandal, often overshadowed his significant contributions to the nation. This complexity makes Hamilton a fascinating figure whose legacy merits deeper exploration.
Tyler Fauntleroy (Alexander Hamilton), Nathan Haydel (John Laurens/Phillip Hamilton), Jimmie J.J. Jeter (Sir Aaron Burr), Lauren Mariasoosay (Eliza Hamilton), Justin Sargent (King George III), and A.D. Weaver (George Washington) blew us away with their unbelievable talent! Collectively, they create a dynamic cast and individually they bring so much to their songs and characters, enriching the overall performance with their individual roles. Songs such as ‘You’ll Be Back’, ‘Non-Stop’, ‘One Last Time’ and ‘Burn’ bring out all of the emotions and the audience cheer, cry and laugh with the characters.
We want to thank Allied Global Marketing, Ensemble Arts Philadelphia and the entire cast and crew of Hamilton for showing us such a great time.
