In the current sweltering weather conditions, an earnest salute must be given to any and all performers in wigs battling with British theatre infrastructure, so ill-equipped for any temperatures exceeding 20 degrees.

Simon Gross as Miss Hot Stuff is almost superhuman in his command of the sweaty cabaret space above the Prince of Wales pub, maintaining a formidable stage presence and boundless energy, even as his make up melts clean off his face. Miss Hot Stuff is glorious paradigm of traditional English drag – delightfully swathed in gaudy ruffles and sequins, with over-blushed cheeks, visible breast padding and a riotously filthy sense of humour. Gross is a practiced MC and assured host, shepherding the frankly feral audience of hens, gin mums and prosecco girls with a fond but feisty hand.

Divas is a celebration of pop and rock divas across the decades, from Aretha Franklin to Celine Dion, Donna Summer to Amy Winehouse. Mollie Mason King, Rebecca Williamson and Pamela Ivonne-Cole make up the principal cast of singers, and take turns in a whirlwind of wonderfully frazzled wigs to showcase the biggest belters from a repertoire of musical icons. Shaun Curtis and Conor Ensor give enthusiastic support as backing dancers and eye candy. 

This is a packed show that sweeps across the decades, and none of the performers hold back. The principal singers in this cast are astonishing, boasting extraordinary vocal flexibility and range. Each of the curated numbers is a proud celebration and never tips over into gimmick or trite impersonation.

This show is wild, controlled chaos and an absolute riot. Participation is welcome and encouraged, so if you are feeling compelled to belt along to some Tina Turner – this is just the ticket.
