Fringe review: DICKIE MUST DIE, Stitched Heart Ltd - Edinburgh Festival Fringe
Dickie Must Die by Olivia Denton, with Stitched Heart Theatre Company, is a hilarious one-hour comedy set on Halloween night as best friends Ruby and Sapphire try to put a curse on their common enemy Dickie – who broke Sapphire’s heart and deserves to…well…die. Right?
Wrong. The evening takes a turn for the worst and when it turns out that this is Ruby’s first successful spell, Dickie and Dickie’s ghost aren’t too pleased about this.
The feeling of the show is a theatrical rom com, filled with wonderful one liners that the theatre kids in the audience love, such as Ruby and Dickie both threatening one another with the worst thing that could ever possibly happen to either of them, both unemployed actors craving attention – never performing at – ‘The Nash’ – aka the National.
All three actors (Pippa Walton, Olivia Denton and Max Hyner) have excellent chemistry and perfect comedic timing which is simply a joy to watch. The play also contains more intimate moments such as when Sapphire and Dickie are left alone to speak with one another, analysing the short comings of their relationship (or ‘situationship’ as they like to call it), culminating in Sapphire realising that in reality they were never a fit match. Exploring friendship, romance and spells, this is a show not to miss!
A thoroughly entertaining evening.
