Review: CORONA CUTIE: A DIGITAL QUEST FOR LOVE, Spotlight Musical Theatre & The Green Room - Edinburgh Fringe (Online)

Corona Cutie 4 stars

Following Claire, a young woman venturing into the world of online dating during a pandemic, Corona Cutie is a production written, produced and created completely by students remotely during Covid-19 lockdown.  It is a quest for love from the confinement of a small New York City apartment.

Written by Lucy Geller and directed by Rosie Corr, the relationships between characters are clear and conversations natural and realistic.  In this digital age of relationships, there are some comical moments, including a video date that is far from the anticipated success it could have been and some poignant moments such as being ghosted mid conversation, which anyone that has ever attempted online dating, especially during lockdown times, will recognise and identify with. It’s a strange world out there!

CoronaCutie.com, the online platform created for this piece, is suitably cheesy and the all-singing, all-dancing introduction and instructions on how to create a profile are perfectly portrayed.

Annika Hoseth appears strong and confident in the lead role of Claire and the supporting cast are talented and capable all-rounders.

The piece is well put together and edited smoothly, making it easy to watch and light hearted in its content.

**** Four Stars
