Fringe review: ALONE, Glow House Ltd/Dusty Room Productions - Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Do you believe in our survival? Alone is a multi award-winning New Zealand sci-fi drama about feminism, climate change and David Bowie. In the deep reaches of space, two scientists have made a potentially monumental discovery, but will they be able to make it count? Will their faith in science or an almighty allow them to hold the ship together long enough to bring this seed of life back to a dying planet?

Written and directed by Luke Thornborough, think Event Horizon crossed with Star Trek, then imagine all that played out in front of you on stage. The tension building is spot on, you're involved before you realise it (no spoilers), gripped by the story, invested in the conclusion.

Kat Glass is Dr Sarah Taylor, the female scientist who has fought so hard to get her one chance at getting it right, she can't afford to mess it up now. Courtney Bassett is pilot Jessica Holland, the hero for so many women, she can't face her glory or her mum until they get home, just in case she disappoints anyone.

This production is like nothing we've seen on stage before. A unique experience, engrossing story and appealing, engaging characters. It's an all round delight to watch.

Out of this world!
