It has been announced this afternoon that Darius Campbell Danesh has passed away aged 41, after being found unresponsive in his Minnesota apartment.

Darius originally came to our attention in reality TV shows Popstars in 2001 and then Pop Idol the following year where he came third behind Will Young and Gareth Gates. He then went on to carve out a solo career with his single ‘Colourblind’ reaching number 1 in the charts.

He has also had a successful stage career having starred in musicals including Chicago, Guys and Dolls, Gone With The Wind, From Here To Eternity and most recently Funny Girl, performing alongside Sheridan Smith.

The cause of death is not currently known but in a statement from his family, it said that “there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances.”

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
