Remembering legendary songwriter RICHARD M SHERMAN

Legendary songwriter Richard M Sherman, best known for writing some of Disney’s best loved songs, has passed away aged 95, it has been announced.

One half of the award-winning pair of brothers who wrote more than 150 songs for Disney, Sherman and his brother Robert - who died in 2012 aged 86 - won two Academy Awards for the 1964 film Mary Poppins - for Best Score and Best Song for ‘Chim Chim Cher-ee’, a Grammy, along with 23 gold and platinum albums and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

They also penned ‘It's A Small World’, which is believed to be the most played song in the world.

Sherman is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and their two children, Gregory and Victoria, and his daughter, Lynda, from a previous marriage.
