It has been announced this afternoon that award-winning actor Sir Michael Gambon has sadly passed away following a bout of pneumonia, aged 82.

Best known for playing Professor Dumbledore in the Harry Potter film franchise from 2004-2011, Gambon began his highly decorated acting career over 60 years ago and was an original member of the Royal National Theatre.

He is also well known for playing French detective Jules Maigret in Maigret (ITV), and starring in The Singing Detective (BBC).

Our thoughts are with his wife, Lady Anne Gambon, son Fergus, extended family and friends at this difficult time.
