Andrew Lloyd Webber’s eldest son, Nicholas, has died aged 43, the composer has announced.

Grammy-nominated composer Nicholas was suffering with gastric cancer and sadly died at Basingstoke Hospital earlier today.

Andrew wrote this evening: “I am shattered to have to announce that my beloved elder son Nick died a few hours ago in Basingstoke hospital. His whole family is gathered together and we are all totally bereft.”

Nicholas Lloyd Webber wrote the music for BBC One drama Love, Lies and Records; a theatrical and symphonic version of the novel The Little Prince in 2009 in a collaboration with James D Reid, and worked on Fat Friends: The Musical. He also produced the Andrew Lloyd Webber Symphonic Suites at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London.

Our thoughts are with Nicholas’ family and friends at this difficult time.
