Stage and screen star Helen McCrory has died aged 52 after a battle with cancer, it has been announced.

Her husband and fellow actor Damian Lewis announced the sad news via his Instagram account this afternoon.

McCrory had an incredible career spanning film, TV and theatre. She was most recently seen on stage in The Deep Blue Sea at the National’s Lyttelton Theatre in 2016, a venue with whom she had a great affiliation. She is also well known for her performances as Cherie Blair in The Queen, Polly Gray in the BBC’s Peaky Blinders and Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter film franchise.

Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time.
