Sadly another wounded party of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Steven Spielberg’s film remake of West Side Story has had its release date pushed back by 12 months to 10 December 2021.

Based on the original 1957 Broadway musical, West Side Story features an iconic score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim with a book by Arthur Laurents. Spielberg directs this new film adaptation, with Pulitzer prize winner Tony Kushner having written the screenplay.

The cast includes Rachel Zegler as Maria, Ansel Elgort as Tony, Ariana DeBose as Anita, David Alvarez as Bernardo, Mike Faist as Riff and Brian D’Arcy James as Officer Krupke.

Rita Moreno, who won an Academy award for her portrayal of Anita in the 1961 film, has had a new role created for her in this film. She will play Valentina, who is based on shop owner Doc.

The film’s original release date was 18 December 2020.

We know it will be worth the wait, Besties!
