Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre announces full cast for ONCE ON THIS ISLAND
Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre have announced the full cast for their forthcoming production of the Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical Once On This Island, which runs at the venue from 10 May-10 June.
Joining the previously announced Gabrielle Brooks (Get Up Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical) as Ti Moune and Stephenson Ardern-Sodje (Hamilton) as Daniel are Courtney-Mae Briggs (Back to the Future the Musical, West End) as Andrea, Jonathon Grant (Fosse, US tour) as Armand + US Agwe, Emilie Louise Israel (Treason, Theatre Royal Drury Lane) as Erzulie, Chris Jarman (Wicked, West End) as Tonton, Anelisa Lamola (The Color Purple, UK tour) as Asaka, Natasha Magigi (The Clothes They Stood Up In, Nottingham Playhouse) as Mama Euralie, Ashley Samuels (Oklahoma!, Young Vic) as Agwe and Lejaun Sheppard (Come from Away, West End) as Papa Ge.
Completing the cast are Bernadette Bangura (My Fair Lady, London Coliseum/UK Tour) Hanna Dimtsu, Nay-Nay (Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs, New Theatre Cardiff), Cassandra Lee (& Juliet, West End), Cherece Richards (professional stage debut), Mikel Sylvanus (The Lion King, West End) and Marco Titus (Mandela – A New Musical, Young Vic). The role of Young Ti Moune will be shared by Janai Bartlett, Lexi Kowlessar, Nesisa Mhindu, Kirsten Muzvuru, Nielle Springer and Olivia St Louis.
Directed by Ola Ince, Once On This Island has a book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty, and is based on the novel My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy. The original West End production won Best New Musical at the Olivier Awards when it premiered in 1995 and the most recent Broadway revival won the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival in 2018.
The creative team includes musical supervisor Phil Bateman, lighting designer Jessica Hung Han Yun, sound designer Nick Lidster, set designer Georgia Lowe, musical director Chris Poon, choreographer Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy, costume designer Melissa Simon-Hartman and casting director Jacob Sparrow.
A story of love, grief, faith and hope, Once On This Island tells of peasant girl Ti Moune, a boy called Daniel, and a union that prejudice forbids. Against the heat of the Caribbean sun and destruction of tropical storms, can Ti Moune settle the wager of the Gods, and prove that love is more powerful than death?
