Queer performance artist brings new wave to King’s Head Theatre, London

Queer cabaret performer Aidan Sadler brings their hit Edinburgh Fringe show to the Kings Head Theatre to London from 19-29 January.

The show titled Tropicana will kick off a campaign tour for Sadler, starting with the 10-day stint at Kings Head Theatre, with further dates to be announced.

Tropicana debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2021 and was an instant hit selling out TheSpaceTriplex’s Jenner Theatre before extending its run. It won Best Solo Act at the Scene Alba Magazine Awards, was the recipient of 9 rave reviews and was hit listed by the Scotsman.

With a backdrop of electrifying 80’s hits from Spandau Ballet, Heaven 17, ABC and of course WHAM!, Tropicana looks at and bends to its whim gender binary and is a show about self-discovery. Sadler is from a small town and Tropicana takes you on a journey through their upbringing through cabaret, music and comedy.

Sadler said: “I've always had an affinity with the New Wave movement of the late 1970's/1980's. The music that movement produced is moody, sexual, expressive. And to sing they're a treat. Belty vocals, dramatic spoken word. Ridiculous, but perfect. I blame my mum personally. I grew up with the sound of 808 drum machines and korg synths blasting out of tinny CD players. It was naturally after this I did my research and saw how queer and gender-defying a lot of it was. That sealed an already sealed deal for me.”

Tickets for the show are available here.
