Q&A: Cbeebies’ Evie Pickerill on starring in ALADDIN at York Theatre Royal

Cbeebies and CBBC superstar, Evie Pickerill, brings her sparkle and flair as Spirit of the Ring to York Theatre Royal in Aladdin this Christmas. We spoke to Evie about her panto experience so far and what audiences can look forward to with this show.

Happy holidays Evie! Can you tell us a little about what to expect from York Theatre Royal's Aladdin?

Happy Holidays! Belly laughs, magic and a really good time.

What's your favourite scene when playing the Spirit of the Ring?

Oooooh, I love them all for different reasons. I like the opening as you get to meet the audience, but the finale is great as everyone joins in.

Has it been fun working with York Theatre favourites Robin Simpson and Paul Hawkyard?

Oh yes it has! Robin and Paul are the definition of funny. It’s a joy to work with them.

How does being on stage compare to being in the TV studio? Does it bring different challenges?

The main difference is performing to a live audience, which is so much fun.

You're also starring in CBeebies pantomime Beauty and the Beast, which brings panto to the cinema! Can you tell us a bit about that experience?

Oh it was amazing, it always is. I adore being involved in the CBeebies’ pantos. I also flew in this show, which was super cool.

Do you have any fond memories of going to the theatre as a child, and did they affect your decision to go into entertainment?

I was very lucky and went to the theatre a lot with my family, and it’s definitely the reason I’m where I am today.

Aladdin plays at York Theatre Royal until 5 January 2025, with further info here.
