Private Peaceful transfers to West End next month via Bristol Old Vic
It has been announced that Private Peaceful will transfer into the West End next month. The show, directed by Alexander Knott and created as a two hander, recently closed after a successful run at The Barn Theatre and will open at London’s Garrick Theatre in November, following a brief stop at Bristol Old Vic.
This news makes Private Peaceful the first ‘new’ West End play to open since lockdown began in March. It is due to play in London from 7 November for two weeks. Prior to this, the show will play at Bristol Old Vic from 21-24 October.
Based on Michael Morpurgo’s modern classic, Private Peaceful tells the story of Thomas ‘Tommo’ Peaceful as he reflects upon the events that made him the person he is now, from romance to fighting alongside his brother on the battlefield.
The show stars Emily Costello and James Demaine, with Costello playing the role of Tommo and Demine playing multiple characters and providing the majority of the show’s music.
James Edge, reviewing the production at The Barn Theatre Cirencester for West End Best Friend, said: “In the current time of division, uncertainty and fear, Private Peaceful is a poignant reminder that no one is ‘worthless’ and that all of us must do what is right, not what is easy, for a bright future and better tomorrow. A must see.”
