Preview: THE BARN THEATRE’s 2022 Season Launch

The Barn Theatre in Cirencester only opened its doors in 2018 and with the last two years being full of uncertainty in the theatre world, you can be forgiven if you haven’t had a chance to visit yet!

Last night saw the latest of their annual self-proclaimed “legendary launch nights” for their 2022 season, including special guests and sneak preview performances.

Beginning with Murder For Two, opening on 4 February and running until 5 March and described as Agatha Christie with singing and dancing, it’s a musical comedy whodunnit with a twist.

This is followed by The Mozart Question by Michael Morpurgo, (21 March–30 April), which tells the story of a violin with a haunting and traumatic past set against experiences of the Holocaust. It’s a tale of love, secrets and survival. Some Enchanted Evening, features the many songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein from 6-28 May, including classic songs from shows such as South Pacific, Cinderella and Carousel.

Million Dollar Quartet, inspired by the true story of Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley runs from 6 June to 16 July, before Alfred Uhry’s Pulitzer Prize winning play Driving Miss Daisy, running from 19 August-17 September; a tale of underlying prejudices.

Gripping thriller The Girl on the Train (26 September–29 October) tells the story of Rachel Watson and how when the women she has been secretly watching on her train journey suddenly disappears, she finds herself facing bigger revelations than she could ever have imagined.

Rounding off the year, their seasonal production will be The True Adventures of Marion and Robin Hood, written by Alan Pollock and running from 21 November 2022-7 January 2023. Bringing together myth, music and medieval slapstick with magic and acrobats, there is something for all ages, but will the famous duo join together and defeat the Sheriff and his evil protector Prince John? There’s only one way to find out!

There is certainly an eclectic mix of productions to look forward to and if you live locally to The Barn, you can purchase a Season Pass which is a fantastic way to support local theatre and watch live performance.
