A hauntingly beautiful pop x musical theatre crossover has been announced between queer led musical theatre production company leo&hyde and West End star Jacob Fowler.

Body dysmorphia, hyper self-criticism, and the inner saboteur unify our shared experience of being human rather than alienate us.  Inspired by lived experience of male body issues within the LGBTQIA+ community, alongside mainstream pressure to look a certain way, ‘rain before the rainbow’ merges pop and musical theatre to discuss complex subject matters, with an overarching reminder to #shutdownyourfantasyself and live authentically.

Featuring Jacob Fowler, a rising star across both pop and musical theatre, ‘rain before the rainbow’ is the lead single from leo&hyde’s upcoming EP, ‘double life’, which is available to stream from today (12 August).

With a career spanning across both pop and musical theatre, Jacob’s suitability for ‘rain before the rainbowis unmatched! Jacob’s credits include JD in Heathers, Bobby in Dreamboats and Petticoats, and in 2022, Jacob will play Topher in the European premiere of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

In 2020, with his band Since September, Jacob won Little Mix: The Search, subsequently supporting Little Mix on their sold out, ‘Confetti’ UK arena tour.

leo&hyde first met Jacob in the final stages of the Stiles and Drewe competition for Best New Song in 2021 where he performed an original song from Leo and Dan (the producer of this EP!).

When discussing our pop x musical theatre collaboration, we asked Jacob what each genre can learn from the other. He said “pop…can teach musical theatre not to be so pretentious…and musical theatre can teach the pop world that artistic integrity does matter.” He went onto say something which is a mantra for leo&hyde: “there’s space for more types of musical theatre to exist.”
