Ryan Molloy to play Stephen Hawking in musical adaptation of The Theory of Everything

Ryan Molloy

A musical adaptation of Oscar-winning biopic The Theory of Everything has been announced to hit the stage soon, with Olivier award-nominated actor Ryan Molloy (Jersey Boys) leading the production as Stephen Hawking.

Known for the award-winning 2014 film, The Theory of Everything is a spectacular insight into the life of British theoretical physicist, cosmologist and author, Stephen Hawking. The film starred Eddie Redmayne as Hawking, a role which earned him an Oscar, whilst Felicity Jones was nominated for an Academy award for her portrayal of his ex-wife Jane.

The Theory of Everything takes us along on a unique journey that includes debilitating disease, love against all odds and high science, with us beginning at the University of Cambridge where he studied. It was adapted by Anthony McCarten from the 2007 memoir, Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, by Jane Hawking. This book is Jane’s account of their relationship.

Ryan Molloy, who will play Stephen in the stage production, is best known for his performance as Frankie Valli in the West End production of Jersey Boys; a hit musical in its own right and a role he also played on Broadway.

This announcement is a wonderful way of capturing Stephen’s remarkable story and keeping his memory alive, through the medium of theatre. He sadly passed away in March 2018.

We can’t wait to see it for ourselves!
