PERTH FESTIVAL OF ARTS announces 50th Anniversary line-up

The city of Perth will welcome both internationally renowned names and the hottest emerging Scottish talent from the world of music, arts and culture for the 50th Perth Festival of the Arts, which runs from 18–29 May 2022.

The Orchestra of Scottish Opera and a stellar line-up of singers will present a programme of opera’s most moving pieces in The Brewin Dolphin Gala Opening Concert at Perth Concert Hall. In the more intimate setting of Perth Theatre, Scotland’s touring opera company Opera Bohemia will perform a chamber version of Puccini’s masterpiece, Madama Butterfly.

Also in Perth Theatre, festival goers can enjoy the hit Broadway and Las Vegas musical Friends! the Musical Parody, based on the 90s sitcom.

There will be plenty of famous faces too, with presenter and comedian Simon Amstell performing his critically acclaimed show Spirit Hole, wildlife presenter and filmmaker Gordon Buchanan bringing his anniversary show 30 Years in the Wild, and restaurant critic, MasterChef judge and writer Jay Rayner entertaining with his show My Last Supper: One Meal, a Lifetime in the Making

Also featured will be the award-winning Scottish production Thunderstruck, written and performed by David Colvin and directed by Tom Freeman. It concerns the legacy and mythology of Pitlochry bin man and bagpiper, Gordon Duncan, who changed Scottish music forever.

From the USA, the festival brings Eleanor’s Story, a two-part dramatic production detailing the incredible true story of a young American girl in Germany during WWII.

As well as theatre, the festival will include a range of concerts, workshops and exhibitions in churches and cultural spaces around the city.

Tickets for the festival are on general sale from 21 March, with more information here.
