Opera North announces 2021 programme to include A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC
Opera North has announced its upcoming 2021 programme, to include A Little Night Music and new dance piece, West Side Story Symphonic Dances.
The company’s eagerly anticipated production of A Little Night Music will play at Leeds Playhouse this summer, with dates to be revealed; as well as a tour of Fidelio.
Bizet's Carmen will be performed at Leeds Grand Theatre, directed by Edward Dick, and starring Chrystal E Williams in the title role and Antoine Bélanger as Don José.
West Side Story Symphonic Dances will be choreographed by Dane Hurst and performed in collaboration with Phoenix Dance Theatre, forming part of a double-bill of Bernstein works in one evening, along with one-act opera Trouble in Tahiti.
Entering the winter season, a new production of Verdi's Rigoletto will be staged, directed by the award-winning Femi Elufowoju Jr in his operatic debut. Eric Greene will take the title role and he will be joined by Willard White and Roman Arndt.
A revival of Handel’s Alcina marks Opera North’s first environmentally sustainable production, directed by Tim Albery and starring Máire Flavin as Alcina and Patrick Terry as Ruggiero. Then the final production is Wagner’s Parsifal, opening at Leeds Grand Theatre prior to a UK tour.
