Online Series In The Wings to Feature Postponed Musicals

Have you been missing theatre as much as we have? Well, today we are proud to announce that the new online series, In the Wings, hopes to mark the first step in reopening the industry. Filmed in London’s Union Theatre, in strict accordance with social distancing guidelines, it will feature the first live performances in a theatre since the West End closed in March. It hopes to shine a light on new musicals that have been put on hold due to the Coronavirus lockdown.

Every Friday, composer Richard Thomas (Jerry Springer: The OperaMade in Dagenham) will be joined by creatives whose work has recently been postponed. Alongside these interviews, there will be a selection of songs from the show. All of which will be performed by West End actors and a live band. You can also expect to hear music from other well-known musicals, so there is something for everyone to enjoy!

Those involved in the project include: Dougie Carter (Les Misérables; Sunset Boulevard), Aaron Lee Lambert (Hamilton; Miss Saigon; Sweeney Todd), Steph Parry (Mamma Mia; 42nd Street), and Laura Pick (Wicked; The Sound of Music).

The first episode will air on Friday 12th June at 7:30pm, via the In The Wings Youtube channel. Or you can catch all the action on their TwitterFacebook, and Instagram pages. The other concerts will air at the same time each week, and the schedule is as follows:

Friday the 12th June- No Limits with Sam Thomas (Composer). An exciting new song-cycle follows the lives of characters who strive for a better tomorrow.

Friday the 19th June- Legends Of Arahma with Joe Purdue (Composer). This epic adventure has two warring clans decide the fate of their natural world.

Friday the 26th June- Gretel! with Liv Ward (Writer). In 1940’s England, fairy tale characters come to life to bring hope to a young girl.

In The Wings is produced by Justin Williams and Henry Brennan, with Williams as designer and Brennan as musical director. The two are joined by video designer Ben Bull.
