New York Theatre Workshop announces February and March programming

New York Theatre Workshop has today announced its programming for February and March, to include podcast Hilton Als Presents by the Pultizer Prize winner and Artistic Instigator, a benefit reading of Lee Edward Colston II’s For Which It Stands, and a new pilot program Open Office Hours, in addition to free virtual programming.

Free podcast Hilton Als Presents takes a different look at what the Pulitzer Prize-winning critic, artist, writer and curator considers marginalised classics throughout the 20th Century to present day. Beginning in March, Als adapts Shirley Clarke’s documentary film Portrait of Jason into an audio drama in Part 1, before exploring excerpts from three lesser-known Tennessee Williams plays in Part 2.

A benefit reading of For Which It Stands by Lee Edward Colston II will be available to stream from 19-22 February, directed by Bianca LaVerne Jones and featuring Ashley Ayanna, Mikayla Bartholomew, Stephanie Berry, Christopher Cassarino, Katherine George, Bria Samoné Henderson, Deanna Reed-Foster, Carolyn M. Smith & Andrea Syglowski. Whilst the play is free to stream, NYTW requests donations for organisations supporting prison reform where possible, for Life Reentry Project, Rehabilitation Through The Arts and Women’s Prison Association.

Pilot program Open Office Hours has been created by New York Theatre Workshop to enable members of its staff to meet with new artists of all disciplines, prioritising access for BIPOC artists. The scheme starts on 16 February with more information available on the venue’s website.

Included in its virtual programming is MASTERCLASS: Experiments in Digital Theatre, which will be held on Friday 26 March at 3pm EST, exploring Theater Mitu’s process in adapting their 2018 piece, Remnant, into a digital format for its Autumn 2020 run at NYTW.
