National Youth Dance Company & Candoco Dance Company announce open call for new Summer Residency

Sadler’s Wells have today announced an open call for the National Youth Dance Company (NYDC) and Candoco Dance Company Summer Residency for disabled and non-disabled dancers aged 16-24.

The residency offers young dancers the chance to create, train and perform with Candoco Dance Company and NYDC, and meet other like-minded performers. During the week-long residency, the twelve selected dancers will take part in workshops led by artists from the two companies.

The participants will live and work as a company for the week in August 2021 at the University of Warwick and Warwick Arts Centre. There is no cost to join the summer residency.

In order to apply, dancers must be based in England and aged 16-19 or up to 24 if d/Deaf or disabled. Applicants must not be enrolled on a full-time vocational dance course. They must have some dance experience and be passionate about dance. Applicants must submit an application form and short video, with full details found via the NYDC website here. The deadline for applications is Monday 14 June 2021.

Hannah Kirkpatrick, Head of National Youth Dance Company said: “We are so excited to be launching this Summer Residency programme in partnership with Candoco Dance Company. It is a partnership that has been developing over a number of years, with Candoco also offering mentorship to some of our NYDC company members. We have a shared interest in creating exceptional work with dancers from diverse backgrounds, experiences and dance styles and this summer school will be no different!

”After what has been a challenging year, with limited new opportunities for young people this feels like a perfect time to come together and look to the future of the dance sector. We feel passionately about further developing progression routes for young artists and this summer school will give young people an insight into the work and practices of both companies. Plus, it is residential- so a great insight into the main NYDC company where we come together for four residencies a year. We can’t wait to get started.”
