NINE NIGHT actor dies following performance at Nottingham Playhouse

We were incredibly saddened at WEBF to hear of the passing of former Eastenders actor Josephine Melville who died backstage following a performance of Nine Night at Nottingham Playhouse on Thursday evening, aged only 61 years old.

The company are understandably said to be in a “state of shock” following Melville’s death, the cause of which has not been announced. She played Auntie Maggie in Nine Night.

In a statement from Nottingham Playhouse, it said: “Josephine’s family have been informed, and our thoughts and deep condolences are with them.

“Josephine received immediate assistance from Nottingham Playhouse first aiders and a medically qualified member of the Nine Night audience.  The subsequent very swift arrival of paramedics meant she was quickly and expertly treated but sadly she passed away at the scene.”

All remaining performances of Nine Night at the venue have been cancelled.

Our thoughts are with Melville’s family and friends at this difficult time.
